THE JOHN SPARROW

A total mod/punk/soul dance party. The Houston Press named them Best Band of 2004, and says: "The John Sparrow have the sort of appeal that spans generations. If you're a teenager or a twenty-something, they sound super-hip. If you're in your thirties or forties, they remind you of the Jam, and singer Kevin Richardson is fast becoming the American Paul Weller. If you're an old fart that still likes to rock, the John Sparrow will remind you of the Kinks and the Who, especially madman drummer Mikey DeLeon."

ROTTEN PIECE

A duo of malcontents who have been systematically doing everything wrong since forming in 1990. If you are not careful they will move in next door to you, and your lawn will die. They have delighted (and confused) audiences across the US and Europe. No two shows are alike, although they generally contain one or more of the following elements; chance, drone, humor, video, deconstructed rock, sound collage, psychedelia, electronics, homemade instruments, satire and dissonance. Current and former members of Rusted Shut, Sad Pygmy, Ourobouros, and who knows what else.

GOD'S TEMPLE OF FAMILY DELIVERANCE

God's Temple of Family Deliverance is a seven-ton beast with bloodshot eyes, chasing you mercilessly through the forest. This is everything that is wise about good metal: epic tracks that tire you out physically, where there are riffs and there are chops but the songs don't depend on them, and it would sound just as creepy were it played quiet as it would be loud. And God's Temple is fucking loud, but not to a fault. Eric Faucette's bloodcurdling vocals only ride shotgun to the wall of amiable distortion behind, and Chris Ryan's keelhaul on the drums leaves little room left for punishment on the ears.

(this description sloppily, shamefully pillaged from a review by Lance Walker in the Free Press.)
